DJ Harryman

“The 2011 varsity football team started off rough,” said DJ Harryman who plays as a free safety, and quarterback. “We are finishing strong.” Their practice consists of two to three hours everyday. At first they do a drill in their position. Then later they work as a team.“You must take football serious,” said DJ.
“If you want to get better, you must take practice serious.” What made it a hard year for the team, were getting new players and teaching them the new plays, and injuries among the players.. “The teams had their skills but, just didn’t have the assignments done.” Varsity strength were the offensive team and the defensive team. “The defensive team was able to hold off their opponents for two touch downs.”
Sprague high school was a tough school to go against. But for McNary we were able to hold them till the end. “My passing was good, and my receivers were also good,” says DJ. “Coach Ward can be a hard coach to work with, he calls the plays and the team gets no input.
“Our next game is against Grants Pass. We are going to keep playing till we lose.” The team’s toughest games are against North and South. “They were very close games,” says DJ. “I feel that we are doing better than South.”
They did beat Sprague which was a very close game 27-26. “Thanks to coach Ward, we had a good year, he can be hard but he is a good coach.” If they win this weeks game they will go to the top 14 of the state. “We are sure to win against Grants Pass.”
“My blockers are Kelly, Todd, Mason, Anthony, Joe. I have been sack a couple times, but getting better.” This is DJ last season in school and to play football for McNary High School. From high school he is going to Oregon State. “I’m a ducks fan, I want to study in becoming an athletic trainer.” DJ likes playing football, but once he goes to college he rather play baseball. “I do play football with my friends every Friday.”
